Collection: Freshwater Snails
Freshwater snails are hardworking members of the aquarium clean-up crew, grazing algae, biofilm, and leftover food while adding color and movement. Our collection includes popular varieties such as Nerite, Mystery, Ramshorn, and similar species.
- Difficulty: Very easy, beginner-friendly
- Water parameters: pH 7.0 to 8.0, temperature 68 to 78°F, GH 6 to 12, KH 3 to 8 (general guidance; match conditions to your livestock); harder water with available calcium supports healthy shell growth
- Tank size: Depends on species, adult size, and the number of animals; check the requirements of each variety
- Note: Nerite snails commonly sold for freshwater aquariums may lay eggs, but do not normally establish a population of juveniles in a typical freshwater tank. Mystery and Ramshorn snails can reproduce in freshwater.
Many of these snail varieties are peaceful and can live with shrimp. Avoid copper-based medications that are unsuitable for invertebrates, and provide appropriate food and calcium for healthy shells. A newly arrived snail may remain withdrawn, but inactivity alone does not establish whether it is healthy. If you are concerned about its condition on arrival, document the issue and consult our Live Arrival Guarantee policy; do not wait a day or two to report a possible problem.
Every order is backed by our 100% Live Arrival Guarantee and ships across the US with seasonal protection. See our shipping information for current options and rates. Local pickup available in Duluth, Minnesota.
