Freshwater Snails

Skittles Snail Pack

A curated mix of freshwater snail species — varied shells, varied behaviors, one ready-made cleanup crew.

Mixed Species Pack Variety of Shell Colors & Shapes Full Cleanup Crew Shrimp Safe Planted Tank Ready Beginner Friendly

The Skittles Snail Pack is a mixed assortment of captive-bred freshwater snail species selected for compatibility, visual variety, and cleanup utility. Depending on availability, packs may include ramshorn snails, bladder snails, Malaysian trumpet snails, and other compatible freshwater species — each bringing a different shell shape, color, and behavioral trait to the tank. No two packs are identical, and exact species, colors, and quantities are not guaranteed, which is part of the appeal. Every pack is a surprise, and every tank that receives one ends up with a diverse, active, and genuinely functional cleanup crew from day one. All species included are shrimp-safe and suitable for planted aquariums and community setups.

Appearance & Behavior Over Time

Wide range of shell shapes and colors — shells in the pack can range from the flat spiral of ramshorns in red, blue, brown, or spotted variants, to the pointed cone of Malaysian trumpet snails, to the rounded bladder snail form. The visual variety across the group is part of what makes the pack interesting to watch. Different species occupy different tank zones — ramshorns and bladder snails graze actively on glass, plant leaves, and hardscape surfaces; Malaysian trumpet snails spend most of their time burrowed in the substrate aerating and cleaning from below. Together they cover the full tank from substrate to waterline. Constant, visible cleanup activity — the mixed colony grazes on algae, biofilm, leftover food, and organic debris continuously, keeping surfaces cleaner and reducing the buildup of waste that would otherwise affect water quality. Population self-regulates with feeding — reproduction rates vary by species but all are influenced by available food. Controlled, consistent feeding keeps numbers at a functional level; excess food drives population increases that can become difficult to manage over time. All species are shrimp-safe — every snail in the pack is fully compatible with Neocaridina, Caridina shrimp, and fry. No species included will predate on shrimp, eggs, or shrimplets under any circumstances. Great for new tank establishment — introducing a mixed snail colony during the early stages of a new tank accelerates biofilm development on hardscape and plant surfaces, giving shrimp a richer environment to explore from the moment they're introduced.

Getting Started

1 Acclimate before adding to the tank — float the bag for 15 minutes to equalize temperature, then slowly introduce small amounts of tank water over 20–30 minutes before releasing the snails. A gentle acclimation reduces stress across all species in the pack simultaneously.
2 Use sand or fine gravel substrate — a fine-grained substrate accommodates the full range of behaviors in the pack, including burrowing for trumpet snails and surface grazing for ramshorns and bladder snails. Coarse substrate limits the utility of burrowing species.
3 Maintain consistent mineral levels — target pH 6.8–8.0 and KH 2–8 to support long-term shell health across all species. Moderately hard, slightly alkaline water prevents shell erosion and supports the wide range of species the pack may contain.
4 Feed consistently and avoid overfeeding — supplement with algae wafers or sinking foods if natural biofilm and algae are running low, but keep feeding amounts controlled. Overfeeding is the primary driver of unchecked population growth in mixed snail colonies.
💡 Bonus Tip

Skittles Packs are an excellent way to seed a new tank with cleanup biodiversity before adding shrimp — the snails establish biofilm on hardscape and plant surfaces faster than the tank would develop it on its own, creating a richer, more immediately hospitable environment for shrimp from day one.

Very pleased

I ordered 2 skittles packs. Both arrived in good shape. I think I have maybe 2 that didn't make it, but it's only been 24 hrs so I'm not calling it yet. They did send a few more than the 20, so regardless I definitely got what I paid for. I have mostly ramshorns in these packs, in a variety of sizes and colors, with a few bladder snails as well. They are already all over the aquarium doing their thing. Very pleased.
