Collection: Bucephalandra
Bucephalandra ("Buce") are slow-growing rhizome plants prized for their deep colors, compact size, and the subtle iridescent sheen on their leaves. They range from green to dark blue, purple, and near-black depending on variety and lighting.
- Difficulty: Easy
- Lighting: Low to moderate
- CO2: Not required (richer color and tighter growth with CO2)
- Placement: Foreground to midground; attach to driftwood or rock
- Growth: Very slow
- Key rule: Like Anubias, do not bury the rhizome. Attach Buce to hardscape and leave the rhizome exposed.
Bucephalandra is shrimp-safe, low-maintenance, and excellent for adding color and detail to hardscape without fast-growing upkeep. Its slow growth and small footprint make it ideal for nano and shrimp tanks. Newly added Buce may shed a few older leaves ("melt") as it adapts, this is normal, and new growth follows.
