Sun Orange Amano Shrimp bring orange tones to the busy grazing behaviour Amano keepers enjoy. They explore leaves, wood and substrate throughout the aquarium, making them engaging animals to watch as well as useful members of a planted setup.
This variety is Caridina multidentata, the Amano shrimp. Adults live in freshwater, but reproduction involves a specialised larval stage rather than miniature shrimp emerging directly into the aquarium. Choose them for their activity and appearance, not as a self-expanding freshwater colony.

Orange Colour and Amano Activity
Colour varies naturally. Orange coverage and intensity differ between individuals and can change with age and condition. Allow new arrivals time to settle before assessing their appearance.Grazers still need feeding. They browse biofilm and algae, but cannot solve every algae problem or replace maintenance. Supplement their diet with appropriate shrimp food.Plan for adult size. Amano shrimp grow larger than many dwarf shrimp. Leave open foraging areas alongside planting and hiding places.Freshwater adults, specialist larvae. A female may carry eggs in freshwater, but the larvae need specialised saline rearing conditions. Ordinary freshwater tanks do not support the complete breeding cycle.
How to Set It UpGetting Started
1Use a mature aquarium. Make sure filtration is established and ammonia and nitrite are zero. Provide plants and hardscape with natural grazing growth.
2Acclimate gradually. Match the animals carefully to aquarium temperature and water chemistry. Consistency after arrival helps avoid unnecessary stress.
3Offer cover and secure openings. Shrimp need refuges during moulting. Keep the aquarium covered and protect filter intakes.
4Feed small, varied portions. Use suitable shrimp food alongside natural grazing. Observe feeding, remove leftovers and keep up with modest, regular water changes.
Bonus Tip
Offer food in more than one place if Amanos share a tank with smaller shrimp. Their enthusiastic feeding can otherwise make it harder for quieter tankmates to reach a meal.
