Sinking Veggie Wafers are a complete, plant-forward sinking diet for bottom-feeding herbivores. The formula draws from a broad range of whole vegetable sources including carrot, celery, beet, parsley, lettuce, watercress, spinach, and alfalfa, alongside spirulina, wheat germ, and brewer's yeast, producing a nutritionally diverse wafer that delivers more varied plant nutrition than single-ingredient or primarily grain-based alternatives. The wafer sinks immediately and holds its shape well, allowing bottom feeders, shrimp, and snails to graze from it at their own pace without the wafer dissolving rapidly into the water column. The formula is designed to minimise waste and water clouding, which is a meaningful advantage in a shrimp or snail tank where water quality is closely managed. No preservatives. Made in the USA.
Formula & Ingredients
What's In It
Broad whole-vegetable base including carrot, celery, beet, parsley, lettuce, watercress, spinach, and alfalfa provides a wider range of plant-derived nutrients, pigments, and fibre types than a simple grain-based wafer. Multiple vegetable sources also increase palatability, as different animals are drawn to different scent and flavour profiles, and a varied ingredient list tends to produce faster and more confident feeding responses across a wider range of species.
Spirulina supports colour, immune function, and digestive health. Spirulina is a blue-green algae and one of the most nutrient-dense additions to an invertebrate diet, providing natural pigment precursors, amino acids, and beneficial fatty acids. Its inclusion makes these wafers particularly well-suited to colour-bred Neocaridina morphs where diet has a meaningful impact on colour expression over time.
Wheat germ and brewer's yeast support tissue development and provide bioavailable B vitamins. Wheat germ provides natural vitamin E and essential fatty acids; brewer's yeast contributes a dense B-vitamin profile and is a source of glutamic acid that enhances palatability. Both ingredients are consistently associated with healthy gill, fin, and tissue development in aquatic animals.
30% crude protein and 7.5% fat make this a complete and balanced diet, not a protein-deficient vegetable supplement. Despite the vegetable-forward formulation, adequate protein from fish meal and soybean meal means these wafers can serve as a primary food source rather than a supplement, and rotate with other foods without any nutritional gap concerns.
The low-waste formula minimises water clouding. The wafer holds together and releases nutrients gradually rather than breaking down rapidly into the water column. In a shrimp or snail tank where nitrate management is important this is a practical advantage over powdered or rapidly dissolving foods. Remove any uneaten portions after 24 hours to prevent water quality impact.
Feeding
How to Use
1Drop one wafer per 10 to 15 shrimp or snails directly onto the substrate. The wafer sinks immediately and begins softening within minutes, making it accessible to shrimp and snails of all sizes. For smaller colonies or nano tanks, break the wafer into halves or quarters to avoid overfeeding.
2Feed every 1 to 2 days as part of a rotation. Rotate with other food types including Snowflake Food and Almond Leaves for nutritional variety. Shrimp and snails that receive a varied diet show better colour expression and more consistent reproductive success than those fed a single food type exclusively.
3Remove uneaten portions after 24 hours. While the formula is low-waste, any food left unconsumed for more than 24 hours should be removed before it begins to break down and affect water quality. In a well-stocked tank a wafer will typically be fully consumed well before this point.
Feeding TipVeggie wafers are one of the most effective foods for drawing shrimp out into open view simultaneously. Drop a wafer in the front-centre of the tank during the first few minutes of the light cycle and within a few minutes the majority of the colony will converge on it in a visible feeding cluster. If you want to get an accurate headcount of your colony or observe individual shrimp up close, a veggie wafer is the most reliable tool for bringing them all to one spot at one time.
