Orange Eye Sunkist Shrimp pair an orange body with the eye colour that gives this line its name. Watch them turn on a leaf or forage across a piece of wood and the small details become part of the appeal. Their warm tones look particularly attractive among mosses and deep green plants.
This is a Neocaridina variety for a mature freshwater aquarium. The care approach is familiar to cherry shrimp keepers: stable water, enough minerals for healthy moulting, and a steady supply of natural grazing surfaces. A Warm Orange Colony with Extra Detail
Eye colour is the defining detail. The orange eyes are easiest to appreciate close to the glass. Body colour and opacity can differ between shrimp, especially between young animals and mature females.Grazing is part of everyday life. These peaceful shrimp explore plants and substrate for biofilm and soft growth. They still need appropriate supplemental food and regular aquarium maintenance.Choose companions carefully. A shrimp-only aquarium offers the best view of natural colony behaviour. Even small community fish can eat newly hatched shrimp, so cover alone cannot guarantee their safety.Keep colour lines separate. Neocaridina varieties can interbreed. Offspring may vary in both body and eye appearance; no fixed percentage of orange-eyed young is guaranteed.
How to Set It Up
Getting Started
1Start with an established tank. Cycle the aquarium fully and confirm zero ammonia and nitrite. Mature moss, plants and hardscape provide grazing surfaces and shelter while the colony settles in.
2Keep water chemistry steady. Acclimate gradually to the aquarium and avoid sudden changes in temperature or mineral content. Consistent conditions matter more than chasing a particular number within the care range.
3Protect small shrimp. Use a sponge filter or cover the intake with a suitable prefilter. Fine plants and crevices offer places to hide during moulting and give young shrimp a better chance of finding food safely.
4Feed to the colony’s appetite. Offer small portions of a balanced shrimp food alongside natural grazing. Remove leftovers and make modest, regular water changes with water matched to the aquarium.
Bonus Tip
Give the colony a shaded area and an open grazing patch near the front. Shrimp can retreat when they need cover, then return where you can enjoy their colour without rearranging the aquarium.
