These are Caridina, not blue Neocaridina. Plan their aquarium around stable, soft water and established grazing surfaces. They are best suited to keepers comfortable measuring water chemistry and maintaining a consistent Caridina environment.

Blue Colour in a Dedicated Caridina Aquarium
Individual colour is part of the appeal. Blue depth, coverage and pattern can differ between shrimp. Age and condition also affect the appearance, so a colony need not look perfectly uniform.Prepare the water before the shrimp arrive. Use a suitable soft-water Caridina setup and monitor pH and mineral content. A remineralised RO-water routine and appropriate substrate can help maintain consistency.Keep grazing areas established. 1Establish the aquarium fully. Confirm zero ammonia and nitrite. Allow the filter, plants and grazing surfaces to mature before adding sensitive shrimp.
2Check water chemistry consistently. Measure pH, GH, KH and temperature and avoid sudden corrections. Ask about current holding parameters when planning the transition to your aquarium.
3Acclimate gradually. Take care with differences in temperature and dissolved minerals. Keep conditions steady after introduction and avoid unnecessary handling.
4Maintain a gentle routine. Use protected filtration, small feedings and modest water changes. Match replacement water to the aquarium and remove uneaten food.
Bonus Tip
Record water measurements and maintenance in a simple log. For Caridina, noticing a gradual change early is more useful than reacting to a large swing after the shrimp show stress.
