Dragon Wood earns its name immediately — jagged ridges, contorted branches, and wild root-like forms that bring genuine sculptural drama to any aquascape. Each piece is unique, shaped by nature into something that looks far more intentional than it has any right to. It darkens beautifully underwater, develops rich biofilm surfaces that Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp graze on naturally, and pairs exceptionally well with epiphytes like Anubias, Bucephalandra, and mosses — all of which grip its textured bark with ease.

What to Expect

Appearance & Behavior Over Time

Unique sculpted form on every piece — no two pieces of Dragon Wood are alike; the jagged, branching structure varies naturally, giving each aquascape its own character. Color deepens underwater — light to medium brown tones darken gradually once submerged, developing a richer, aged appearance that improves the longer it stays in the tank. May float initially — Dragon Wood is lightweight and can take several days of soaking before it sinks reliably; this is normal and not a quality issue. Minimal tannin release — releases far less tannin than heavier driftwoods, making it suitable for tanks where water clarity is a priority without extended pre-treatment. Excellent biofilm development — the textured surface encourages natural biofilm growth over time, providing a steady grazing resource for shrimp and freshwater snails. Stable and long-lasting once waterlogged — after the initial soak period, Dragon Wood becomes fully waterlogged and will remain reliably in position for the long term.
How to Set It Up

Getting Started

1 Soak before placing in the tank — submerge Dragon Wood in a bucket of water for several days to waterlog it fully and ensure it sinks. Change the water once or twice to clear any loose surface debris.
2 Plan your layout before committing — Dragon Wood is lightweight and easy to reposition, so test different arrangements dry or in a shallow container before finalizing placement in the aquascape.
3 Attach plants directly to the wood — use super glue gel or thin thread to fix Anubias, Bucephalandra, or mosses onto the textured bark. The ridged surface grips roots well and accelerates attachment.
4 Pair with complementary hardscape — Dragon Wood works naturally alongside smooth stones and botanicals to build layered, nature-style layouts with depth and contrast.
💡 Bonus Tip

Use super glue gel to attach Bucephalandra, Java Moss, or Anubias directly to the textured bark — Dragon Wood grips roots beautifully and creates an aged, established look right away without waiting weeks for natural attachment.
