What to Expect with Appearance

Chopstick Snails are named for their long slender cone-shaped shells, which resemble narrow sticks or chopsticks when viewed from a distance. Shell coloration typically ranges from tan to dark brown, often with subtle natural striping or shading. Their elongated shape makes them stand out immediately compared to more rounded snail species.

Because of their tall shell profile, they add vertical interest to the aquarium and are especially eye-catching when climbing glass, wood, or rock surfaces. Shell length increases steadily with age, and older individuals can develop impressive height while remaining relatively narrow.

General Care Behavior and Tank Conditions

Chopstick Snails are peaceful and slow-moving, spending much of their time grazing on biofilm, soft algae, and organic debris. They may partially burrow into fine substrate during rest periods, which is normal behavior and helps them feel secure.

They thrive in stable, mature aquariums with gentle water flow and ample surface area for grazing. Supplemental foods such as algae wafers or sinking pellets can be offered if natural food sources are limited. These snails coexist well with shrimp, peaceful fish, and other non-aggressive invertebrates.

Bonus Tip

A fine sand substrate allows Chopstick Snails to exhibit their most natural behaviors and reduces shell wear compared to coarse gravel.
