A Lively Variant From the Green Jade Line

Cantaloupe Shrimp are a selectively bred Neocaridina line derived from Green Jade stock, created to emphasize a lighter emerald green body with yellow highlights rather than the solid deep green of traditional Jades. Under good lighting, their exoskeleton shows a blend of light green and yellow tones that shimmer across the shell, giving them a bright, lively presence in the aquarium without being overwhelmingly dark.

Because they come from Green Jade lineage, they share the same hardy, adaptable temperament that makes Neocaridina so popular. Their coloration reads as fresh and vivid rather than neon, which makes them pair beautifully with lush plants, botanicals, and wood.

Color, Behavior, and Development

Cantaloupe Shrimp typically display light emerald green as the base, with yellowish or golden accents depending on individual genetics and lighting. The intensity and balance of green versus yellow can vary from shrimp to shrimp, which is normal for this line. As juveniles mature and go through healthy molts, their tones generally become more defined and reflective.

Behaviorally, they act like classic Neocaridina: peaceful, highly active grazers that spend their day combing hardscape, leaves, and substrate for biofilm and micro foods. In a planted tank with plenty of surfaces, their constant movement adds subtle color and a sense of natural ecosystem activity.

Care, Feeding, and Ideal Conditions

Cantaloupe Shrimp thrive in stable, fully cycled tanks with standard Neocaridina parameters. A mature aquarium with biofilm-covered surfaces, mossy patches, and botanicals gives them everything they need to forage and feel secure. They readily accept shrimp-specific pellets, algae-based foods, spirulina blends, and blanched vegetables.

Because this line is visually driven and derived from Green Jade, long-term success includes maintaining good water quality and avoiding aggressive tankmates that may stress or pick at shrimp. Consistent conditions and thoughtful, selective breeding over time can help you refine the exact look you prefer within the line.

Breeder Pack Options

  • Breeder Pack includes two males and eight females not including extras.

  • Ultimate Breeder Pack includes two males and eight females not including extras along with three ounces of shrimp food one cholla wood and five almond leaves.

Bonus Tip

For the best visual impact, place Cantaloupe Shrimp against dark wood, rock, and deep green plants. The combination of light emerald and yellow tones pops far more when the background is shaded and the lighting is strong from above.

Complete your shrimp order with some vibrant plants! They provide essential hiding spots and enhance the natural look of your tank, creating a healthier, more enriching environment for your shrimp. Add plants to your order for a thriving, beautiful setup!

The color isn't what I expected at this point

The color isn't what I expected at this point. They've had some time to acclimate so maybe it's a matter of molting. They do appear to be healthy
