Albino Bristlenose Pleco

The albino colour morph of the Bristlenose Pleco -- a pale yellow-white armoured catfish with pink-red eyes and the same bristle development as the standard form. Identical in care and size, with a striking light body that stands out vividly against dark substrate and driftwood.

Pale Yellow-White Body Pink-Red Eyes Ancistrus sp. (Albino) pH 6.5–7.5 4–6 Inches at Maturity Shrimp Compatible with Caution

Albino Bristlenose Plecos are the albino colour morph of Ancistrus sp., produced through selective breeding of individuals carrying the albino gene. The pale yellow to cream-white body and pink-red eyes replace the brown-grey spotted colouration of the standard form, but every other characteristic of the species remains identical -- the same adult size of 4 to 6 inches, the same fleshy tentacle bristles developing on adult males, the same algae-grazing effectiveness, the same dietary requirements, the same compatibility considerations, and the same 5 to 8-year lifespan. The albino colouration creates strong visual contrast against dark substrate and driftwood, making the fish particularly easy to observe and particularly striking as a display animal in a planted tank setup. A complete care guide is provided below; all details apply equally to the standard Bristlenose Pleco.

What the Albino Form Changes

Pale yellow to cream-white body with pink-red eyes -- the only meaningful difference from the standard form. The albino colouration results from the absence of melanin pigmentation. The bony scute plate structure is still clearly visible as textural patterning across the body surface even without the dark pigment that defines it in standard fish. The pale body creates strong contrast against dark substrate and dark driftwood, making the fish highly visible anywhere in the tank. The pink-red eyes are characteristic of true albinism and are clearly visible at close range. Bristle development is identical to the standard form -- adult males develop prominent tentacle-like growths. The fleshy, branching bristles that develop on the snout and head of adult males are present in the albino form in the same manner and to the same extent as in standard Bristlenose Plecos. Bristle development is the primary visual sexing indicator in both forms and reaches full expression by 12 to 18 months of age. Pale body shows biofilm and algae accumulation more visibly -- a health monitoring advantage. The light body surface makes it easier to observe the fish's skin condition, spot any external parasites or lesions, and monitor overall physical health at a glance. Green algae tinting on the body surface from active grazing is normal and harmless. More sensitive to intense lighting -- provide adequate shaded areas. The absence of melanin in the eyes makes albino fish more sensitive to bright light than pigmented individuals. Ensure the tank has shaded zones using driftwood, hardscape, or floating plant cover. The fish will naturally seek shaded areas when light is too intense but consistent exposure to high-intensity lighting causes chronic stress over time.

Identical to the Standard Bristlenose

Outstanding algae grazer -- makes a measurable difference on glass and hardscape within days. Albino Bristlenose Plecos rasp algae from glass, driftwood, stone, and plant surfaces continuously and effectively. A single individual in a moderately lit planted tank keeps glass noticeably cleaner than any manual cleaning schedule can achieve alone. Driftwood is strongly recommended -- an important dietary and behavioural component. Access to driftwood for rasping provides cellulose and biofilm that contribute to long-term digestive health. Provide at least one appropriately sized piece in the tank. Supplement every 1 to 2 days with algae wafers, blanched vegetables, and sinking pellets. Natural algae growth in most tanks is insufficient to fully meet nutritional needs. Offer zucchini, cucumber, spinach, carrot, and quality algae wafers regularly. Remove uneaten vegetables after 24 hours. Provide a cave or dedicated hide -- territorial and requires daytime shelter. PVC pipe sections, Cholla Wood hollows, or purpose-made Pleco caves provide the daytime refuge the fish needs. In a tank with multiple Bristlenose ensure sufficient separate territories.

Generally Safe with Caution

Adult Neocaridina shrimp are generally safe -- shrimplets are at moderate risk. Albino Bristlenose Plecos are not predatory but will consume shrimplets encountered during nocturnal foraging. Adult shrimp at full size are typically ignored. Dense planting with Java Moss and Subwassertang significantly improves shrimplet survival rates in a mixed tank. Plant leaves are safe -- Bristlenose do not consume healthy plant tissue. Bristlenose Plecos graze only algae and biofilm from plant surfaces. Healthy plant tissue is not at risk. Fully compatible with planted aquariums of all styles. Not recommended for Caridina soft-water active-substrate setups. The Bristlenose's preferred parameters do not align with the very soft, low-pH conditions of a Caridina tank. For Caridina setups choose Chili Rasboras, Cardinal Tetras, or Dwarf Rasboras instead.
Display Note

An Albino Bristlenose Pleco on a piece of dark driftwood against a dark substrate backdrop is one of the cleanest and most immediately striking contrast combinations in a planted shrimp tank. The pale body reads as clearly visible from every viewing angle, the bristle development of an adult male is interesting at close range, and the fish's continuous grazing behaviour on the driftwood surface provides constant activity in the lower portion of the tank. Add a colony of Fire Red Cherry or Blue Dream shrimp and the warm or cool shrimp colour reads vividly against the pale Pleco and dark substrate for a three-element display that works at every scale.

Bait and switch with juviniles over youth sized fish pour sized bags

Bait and switch with juviniles over youth sized fish pour sized bags . Not double bagged and hardly any water and multiple DOA's

The pleco size was our mistake. We sent smaller fish than ordered, told you so, and credited you the difference without asking for any proof. A bait and switch means a deliberate substitution meant to deceive someone, which is the opposite of admitting an error and refunding it unprompted. You had 1 DOA from 12 plecos. Not multiple
