What to Expect with Color

Sunkist Orangeback Shrimp display the classic vibrant orange coloration of the Sunkist line paired with a pronounced, brighter dorsal stripe running along the top of the carapace. This stripe often appears more saturated or luminous than the rest of the body, creating a highlighted “orangeback” effect.

Color intensity may vary between individuals. Females typically show fuller and more consistent coverage, while males tend to be slightly lighter and narrower in stripe definition. After molting, shrimp may appear paler until their exoskeleton rehardens and pigments settle. Juveniles start light and develop stronger orange and stripe definition as they mature.

General Care Behavior and Tank Conditions

These shrimp are peaceful, hardy grazers that thrive in mature planted aquariums with abundant biofilm, moss, and natural textures. They spend much of the day grazing, keeping surfaces clean while adding visual movement to the aquascape.

A balanced diet of shrimp-specific foods, spirulina-based pellets, and occasional vegetables promotes strong coloration, good molting, and steady colony growth. Consistent parameters and gentle filtration help maintain long-term health and predictable coloration.

Breeder Pack Options

  • Breeder Pack includes two males and eight females not including extras.

  • Ultimate Breeder Pack includes two males and eight females not including extras along with three ounces of shrimp food one cholla wood and five almond leaves.

Bonus Tip

A dark substrate and leafy or mossy aquascape make the orange dorsal stripe stand out even more, giving the Orangeback morph a glowing effect under aquarium lighting.
