A Vibrant Splash of Tropical Energy

Blood Orange Shrimp are among the most striking orange morphs of Neocaridina davidi, selectively bred for their fiery coloration that ranges from glowing tangerine to a rich, red-orange finish. Their warm tones stand out beautifully against planted scapes, creating an instant burst of visual excitement in freshwater aquariums. With their hardy nature, active behavior, and ease of breeding, they are an excellent choice for both beginners and advanced shrimp keepers wanting a vibrant colony that is as stunning as it is manageable.

They are social, peaceful, and endlessly curious — spending their days exploring moss, grazing across botanicals, and scavenging through biofilm-rich surfaces. Their vivid color and constant motion bring personality and natural animation to aquascapes, transforming quiet tank corners into bright focal points of life.

Color, Behavior, and Development

This morph displays a range of intense orange shades, often deepening with age, diet, and lighting conditions. High-grade individuals exhibit strong pigment coverage over their entire body and legs, with minimal transparency. Juveniles typically begin with softer peach hues, then intensify as they mature and go through healthy molts. They thrive best in well-planted aquariums with moss and microhabitats that protect growing shrimplets.

Blood Orange Shrimp are best kept in peaceful communities where they can live stress-free. While compatible with small nano fish, they truly shine in species-only setups that allow their full behavior and colony structure to flourish.

Care, Feeding, and Ideal Conditions

As with any Neocaridina, stability is the key to success. They prefer fully cycled aquariums with consistent parameters and gentle flow. Frequent water changes are not necessary; instead, aim for small, regular maintenance to keep the biofilm ecosystem healthy. Their diet includes algae, biofilm, shrimp-specific prepared foods, spirulina, and blanched vegetables. Color-enhancing foods, especially those rich in carotenoids and astaxanthin, can dramatically improve vibrancy.

Natural botanicals such as almond leaves, lotus pods, and cholla wood provide both nutrition and shelter, while encouraging microfauna growth that supports juveniles and promotes colony success.

Breeder Pack Options

  • Breeder Pack includes two males and eight females not including extras.

  • Ultimate Breeder Pack includes two males and eight females not including extras along with three ounces of shrimp food one cholla wood and five almond leaves.

Just received my new blood orange shrimp babies. They are beautiful and lively. Acclimatizing them now and hope they do well. 2 of them did not survive the trip but fingers crossed, the rest will thrive in my aquarium.
