Description

Cholla Wood – The Desert Driftwood of Shrimp Dreams 🌵🦐

Scientific Name: Cylindropuntia spp.

🌵 Skeleton of the Southwest, Spa for Your Shrimp

Straight from the arid heart of the desert to your aquascape, Cholla Wood is a hollowed-out husk from the Cylindropuntia cactus—and a favorite hidey-hole for shrimp and microfauna everywhere! With its porous, tunnel-like structure, it creates an instant underwater playground packed with surface area for biofilm, moss, and baby shrimp hideouts.

It softens slowly over time, releasing mild tannins and serving as a cozy perch or grazing log. Lightweight, textured, and shrimp-safe, Cholla is a functional AND aesthetic hardscape that brings the wild right into your tank.

🌿 What to Expect:

  • Hollow, woody tubes with natural holes and lattice-like texture

  • Around 4–6 inches long; ideal for nano tanks and shrimp dens

  • Slowly breaks down over months—biofilm builds fast

  • Adds subtle tea tint and trace organic acids

💧 How to Use:

  • Rinse or boil to waterlog and remove debris

  • Anchor with plants or stack for custom shrimp condos

  • Safe for all shrimp, snails, and soft-water species

🦐 Why You’ll Love It:

✅ Tons of surface area for biofilm, moss, or powdered food
✅ Shrimp and fry love hiding, molting, and grazing inside
✅ Natural hardscape with a weathered, rustic look
✅ Slowly softens without breaking apart quickly
✅ A must-have in every shrimp breeder’s toolkit

🎁 Bonus Tip:

Wrap moss around your Cholla log and secure it with thread or glue—voilà! You’ve got a living, breathing shrimp condo in no time. 🌱🏠

Great little piece, smaller than expected but not a problem for the price!

Attached a java moss leaf. Big enough to make for a tiny baby shrimp hide tunnel.

Once put in the water, it sunk the next day, and both the shrimp and bottom feeders seem to enjoy it the most! Plus it's very pretty and adds a lot to the tank!
