Superior Shrimp & Aquatics is a family-run shrimp room in Duluth, Minnesota, built on one simple promise: the animals that leave our door arrive at yours healthy, vibrant, and ready to thrive.

How we started

What began as a single planted tank and a fascination with the little crustaceans grazing across it grew into something we never quite planned. One tank became a rack. A rack became a room. And a hobby became a family business run out of our home on the cold, clean edge of Lake Superior.

Today we are a true family operation. Every order is hand-selected, sorted, packed, and shipped by people who actually keep these animals, name their favorites, and lose sleep over a cold snap in the forecast. We brought on our team, Madi and Josh, as we grew, and every one of us treats your order the way we'd want ours treated.

Why Lake Superior?

The big lake gives us cold, clean water and a climate that keeps us honest about temperature. If we can ship live shrimp safely through a Minnesota winter, we can ship them safely just about anywhere. The name is a nod to the water we live beside and the standard we hold ourselves to.

We've shipped thousands of orders, and the packing process has been refined order by order. Here's what goes into getting your animals to you alive and unstressed.

Hand-selected & counted

Every animal is individually selected and counted the day it ships. Nothing sits in a holding bag for a week waiting to go out.

Clean water, something to hold

Bags include Seachem Purigen to handle waste in transit, plus netting or plant clippings so shrimp have something to cling to.

Insulated for the season

Bags are nestled in biodegradable cellulose insulation, with heat or ice packs added based on the forecast at both ends.
